Transcription and translation tools help communities preserve oral poetry, myths and songs in written form. For unwritten languages, CDEP develops fonts, keyboards and writing tools. It also builds language-learning platforms that communities can fill with their own lessons for youth and the diaspora.

Indigenous management encompasses sustainable watersheds, community-protected sacred groves, and traditional wildlife conservation governed by customary rules and taboos. Standardized state regulations frequently fail to capture these nuanced practices, resulting in the erosion of conservation ethics and the loss of shared natural wealth.

CDEP develops easy mobile mapping tools so community members can mark sacred groves, community forests, watersheds and wetlands themselves, and record the customary rules and taboos that protect them. Ready-made templates help communities prepare their own People's Biodiversity Registers, and simple reporting tools let them log changes such as encroachment, drying water bodies or loss of species over time.

Indigenous Medicine and Pharmacopoeia:

Deeply embedded in tribal traditions is an empirical understanding of local flora used for healing. As modern pharmaceutical homogeneity takes precedence and forests are cleared, communities lose their indigenous pharmacopoeia, along with the sacred rituals and ethical foraging practices governing their harvest.

Communities can use these tools to document their customary laws and approaches to resolving disputes, and to publish plain-language guides in local languages on community rights and constitutional provisions, such as the Sixth Schedule where applicable. Homogenization heavily favors monocropping, threatening indigenous agricultural knowledge like jhum (shifting cultivation) management, heirloom seed preservation, and polyculture cropping tailored to micro-climates, which diminishes agrobiodiversity and local food security.

CDEP develops tools for communities to maintain their own registers of heirloom and indigenous seed varieties, document jhum cycles and polyculture practices, and create crop calendars based on local knowledge. Farmer-to-farmer platforms let growers share what works in their micro-climates. CDEP develops motif library platforms where artisans can upload their patterns along with their meanings, lineages and stories, and video tools to document weaving, pottery, carving and metalwork techniques. Artisan profiles and marketplace platforms that artisans manage themselves connect them directly with buyers. Documentation templates help communities gather the records needed for Geographical Indication applications, protecting their designs from imitation.

Traditional Food Processing and Preservation:

Beyond primary agriculture, ethnic communities possess brilliant, zero-waste preservation techniques like natural smoking, sun-drying, fermentation, and salt-curing. These methods ensure nutritional security during harsh seasons and yield distinct regional cuisines with unique probiotic benefits.

CDEP develops archive platforms where communities can record recipes and preservation methods such as smoking, sun-drying, fermentation and salt-curing, along with the seasonal and nutritional knowledge behind them. Video tools make it easy to create guides that pass these techniques on. For households and small producers, simple storefront tools help them share their product stories and reach wider markets on their own.

Customary Land Management and Common Property Regimes:

Unlike modern, individualistic property ownership models, many minor ethnic communities operate on customary land tenure systems where land is a collective heritage. Homogenized legal frameworks often disregard these traditional community-held forests and water bodies, leading to ecological degradation and the breakdown of social solidarity.

CDEP develops community mapping tools so communities can mark their collectively held forests, grazing lands and water bodies as they themselves recognize them, and record their customary rules of tenure, use and inheritance. Well-maintained community records can support claims to community forest resources under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, and preserve the shared values that hold communal land systems together.
